Simply Beautiful makes Headlines!!

Simply Beautiful Bride Krista (2009)

It is always a pleasure to work with other professionals in the Pittsburgh area. Simply Beautiful was recently featred in an article by Examiner.com author Shannon Brown of Fotolity (http://www.fotolity.com/) The topic of the article, "Not just another pretty face. Wedding make-up should be more than an afterthought"

Here are some thought on the topic:

Should You Hire a Makeup Artist for Your Special Occasion?

Hiring a professional makeup artist for your special occasion ensures thatyou’re able to focus on last-minute details and the excitement of the dayinstead of fussing over your makeup. A professional makeup applicationinvolves a consultation with your makeup artist in advance of the specialoccasion as well as day-of application, at the location of your choice. The consulatation, i.e. trial run, is a chance to do a run thru of yourlook before the big day. This ensures that you will achieve your desiredlook as well as work out any details such as specially requested productsor services.

Another benefit to hiring a make-up artist is their technical skills. As aprofessionally trianed make-up artist I have had the opportunity to workon so many 100's of different faces with diifernet size, shape, color, andtexture. This type of exposure has trained me to look beyond the face tobring out the best features in the client.

Hiring a make-up artist will also give you a fresh perspective. Most womenuse the same products and colors on a daily basis. For special occasionssuch as a wedding you want to look AMAZING! This does not mean that youhave to have several hundred layers of make-up on, this just means thatyou should use new/ differnet colors and products to enhance your alreadystunning features. For example, if you have big brown eyes and youtypically wear earth tones for work and evenings out, try to play on yourfeatures by adding a classic smokey pink to bring out your eye color andmake your eyes POP. You can also add false lashes to make your look moredramatic. Another example is with skin tone and texture. If you are a moremature woman and you are concerned about the look of your skin, we can usea full-coverage foundation with a mineral veil setting powder to ensurethat your skin texture is smooth and all the tones in your skin are even. This will give the woman a more youthful and confident look.

After meeting and dicussing your look, your make-up artist should give you guidance and direction on the right products and colors to use as well ashow to maintain your look throughout the evening. Other suggestions mightbe skin care prior to the event and different products that are available.

Most importantly, your make-up artist is not there to sell you anything orpressure you. Hiring a make-up artist should take the stress and worry outof your day, so when you wake up in the morning all you have to do is sit and be pampered.

Make-Up Trial Run

Everyone wants to look thier best, wether it is a wedding, prom, or photo session. A make-up trial run, like a hair trial run, is a chance to do a run thru of your look before the big day. This ensures that you will achieve your desired look as well as work out any details such as specially requested products or services. Special Thanks to my February Simply Beautiful Bride Elizabeth and Studio Bash for the beautiful photographs! www.studiobash.com

So what really happens at a Simply Beautiful Make-Up trial run?

1. We meet for the first time and discuss your timeline. When does the make-up artist and massage therapist need to arrive? When (at the latest) do you and guest need to leave for your venue? Are there any special requests (flase lashes/ airbrushing)?
2. We discuss your look and how it can be achieved; This is a great opportunity to not only try new color and different application techniques but also to try new products. It is like a mini make-up lesson.
3. We conduct the make-up trial run

Foundation/ Powder/ Airbrushing (if requested)

Cheeks
Lips
Eyes/Brows

Final Touches
And.... a double check to make sure everything is Simply Beautiful
The trial run is included in the cost for the bride as it is a necessity and always done to ensure that the bride is 100% satisfied and there is no doubt that she will be Simply Beautiful on her big day; For all other special events a trial run is option but highly recommended;

Here are some other tips for your trial run:
  • Your trial run is the interview for your makeup artist; Make sure you get along with your make-up artist and you communicate well.
  • Plan on at least 60 minutes or more for your trial run.
  • Review their current portfolio or photos.
  • Discuss your timeline for your special event as well as any impact it may have on other vendors.
  • Schedule your trial run at least 2-4 months before your special event.
  • Be sure to dicuss your skin tone and type as well as any allegies or medications.
  • Think about adding false eyelashes. Flase eyelashes make a tremendous differece in your appearance and pictures!
  • Be sure to include the entire bridal party to ensure they are perfectly made up for your bridal photos, this includes the mothers of the bride & groom...and the GROOM too!
