Amanda's Maternity Shoot

As a professional make-up artist, I work on a variety of different projects. Most popular are weddings and engagement photos, followed by portfolio work and commercial shoots. 2011 has definitly been a busy bridal year! (This Blog posting is long overdue)The first time I met with the lovely Rachel was on April 17th in Cranberry for her trial run. We had a really fun time experimenting with new colors and False Lashes!!! Rachel’s mom and best friend were on hand for advice and they were all so excited about the AIRBRUSH MAKE-UP! I was excited because Rachel looked AMAZING and she was so much fun to work with!!! On her very special day, May 14, 2011, I met Rachel and her enitre bridal party in downtown Pittsburgh at her Aunt’s apartment. The lovely ladies featured in the pictures are Rachel’s mom Charlene, sister Becca and bridesmaids, Leslie and Alicia. Rachel’s hair was beautiful and her make-up was flawless! She choose airbrush make-up, classic bridal colors with sleek black lines, and false lashes! She was the perfect bride!!! I had the pleasure of working with my September 10, 2011 bride Jamie on April 16th . We initally met at her trial run a few months earlier. I was so happy when I recieved an email from Jamie asking if I could do her make-up for her engagement photo's as well. I was so happy to meet up with her again and talk more about her style and the look she wanted for her big day. After talking, I suggested 'FALSE EYELASHES'; Jamie happily agreed try them! I am so glad she did as she looked AMAZING in her pictures. There are 2 things that a make-up artist can do to add a little drama and enhance a woman's look 1. AIRBRUSH MAKE-UP and 2. False eyelashes. Jamie decided to add the lashes not only to her engagement photos but also to her look on her wedding day! I love these pictures! Everyone wants to look thier best, wether it is a wedding, prom, or photo session. A make-up trial run, like a hair trial run, is a chance to do a run thru of your look before the big day. This ensures that you will achieve your desired look as well as work out any details such as specially requested products or services. So what really happens at a Simply Beautiful Make-Up trial run?

1. We meet for the first time and discuss your timeline. When does the make-up artist and massage therapist need to arrive? When (at the latest) do you and guest need to leave for your venue? Are there any special requests (flase lashes/ airbrushing)?

2. We discuss your look and how it can be achieved; This is a great opportunity to not only try new color and different application techniques but also to try new products. It is like a mini make-up lesson.

3. We conduct the make-up trial run

Foundation/ Powder/ Airbrushing (if requested)

Cheeks

Lips

Eyes/Brows

Final Touches

And.... a double check to make sure everything is Simply Beautiful

The trial run is included in the cost for the bride as it is a necessity and always done to ensure that the bride is 100% satisfied and there is no doubt that she will be Simply Beautiful on her big day; For all other special events a trial run is option but highly recommended;

Here are some other tips for your trial run:

Your trial run is the interview for your makeup artist; Make sure you get along with your make-up artist and you communicate well.
Plan on at least 60 minutes or more for your trial run.
Review their current portfolio or photos.
Discuss your timeline for your special event as well as any impact it may have on other vendors.
Schedule your trial run at least 2-4 months before your special event.
Be sure to dicuss your skin tone and type as well as any allegies or medications.
Think about adding false eyelashes. Flase eyelashes make a tremendous differece in your appearance and pictures!
Be sure to include the entire bridal party to ensure they are perfectly made up for your bridal photos, this includes the mothers of the bride & groom...and the GROOM too!

I am always flattered when one bride recommends me to another bride. In this case, one of my July 2009 brides, Lori, recommended my service to Kristin for her January 31,2010 wedding. Kristin, as you can tell is a stunning bride and was a pleasure to work with. I had a great time working with her entire bridal party. Everyone in her party wanted smokey eyes and false lashes. AIRBRUSHING FOR BRIDES

Due to popular demand, Simply Beautiful Make-Up Artistry & Massage is now offering AIRBRUSH make-up for Brides.

As a professionally trained make-up artist, I have been using airbrush make-up for years, specifically for photo shoots and print. I typically do not offer this service to large bridal parties and weddings due to the tedious nature of the old sysyems. However, over the last 5 years there have been tremendous advancements in airbrush make-up, in particular, the types of compressors and airbrush units that are available. The "older" airbrush systems used a combination of water and liquid make-up that is then compressed through a "wand" to give you the dynamic airbrush look; The problem with the older machines are the time it takes to clean and change the color and make-up that is used in these machines. NOW, there are industry airbrush systems that allow the professional make-up artist to switch not only foundation color but also make-up such as blush, highlighters, and tanning agents with just a click!

Airbrush Advantages

Once airbrushed, you are good to go for up to 10 or 20 hours, with an average of around 16 hours.

It won't rub off on anything or disappear into your pores.
If you're sharing the makeup - at a wedding, for example - the airbrush system is sanitary, since it never actually touches the skin.
Some of the kits and foundations can be used on legs, to conceal veins and discolorations. That means no panty-hose, ladies!

Special effects, such as stencil tattoos, are easily applied.

What is Airbrush Makeup?

Airbrushing is a patented makeup application technique that utilizes compressed air through an “airbrush” with drops of color ie: foundation, blush, etc. to spray on a fine mist of makeup. Most clients find the application technique rather soothing and since traditional brushes are not used during this technique you never have to worry about sanitation.

How does it feel?

Airbrush makeup is exceptionally lightweight. Most clients say they feel as if they aren’t even wearing makeup.

What are the benefits of airbrush makeup?

Airbrush makeup provides flawless coverage by minimizing skin imperfections while giving skin a beautifully natural finished looking result. Airbrush makeup is water resistant and will last for up to twelve hours or more.

Does it cover tattoos, scars, etc?

Yes, with a proprietary, patented “paramedical” airbrush makeup all skin imperfections including tattoos, scars, vitiligo, stretch marks, post-op surgery patients can be concealed.

False Lashes for Brides and Special Events

Wearing false eyelashes can be a really fun way to play up your eyes, but a lot of women are intimidated by them. Well, it's actually really easy! Technique is the key to realistic, flawless looking false lashes in no time! My 2009 Bride Heather loved her lashes and looked Simply Beautiful!!

Step 1: Snip Lash in half
Take an entire lash, and a pair of scissors, and snip the lash in half. It's better to only use half the lash because not everyone's eye lids are as long as the actual false lashes, so the half-lash will look more natural. Also, it's much easier to apply this way, because you won't have to bend it to fit the contours of your eyes.

Step 2: Glue
Squeeze a little bit of glue on to your hand, a piece of paper, or the cardboard container the lashes come in. Then, gently dip the base of the lash in the glue, coating it evenly with a small amount of glue. Don't worry - even if it looks white, it usually dries clear. Wait 5-10 seconds for the glue to get sticky before applying.

Step 3: Apply lash
Apply the lash at the outer corner of the eyes, laying it against the base of your natural lash line with your fingers and holding it there for about 10 seconds.

Step 4: Shade the seam
Once the lashes are on and the glue dries clear, apply a light liner over the seam to disguise the lash liner. Dipping a slanted liner brush in a dark shadow, and lightly tapping it over where the lashes meet the lids so the seam is well camouflaged.

Step 5: Mascara
Blend your false and natural lashes with black mascara. Sweep the wand up from under your natural lashes all the way to the tips of the fake ones.
